Unapologetically Present
Unapologetically Present is a self-portrait that is resilient in its own way while still being soft and incorporating tension. At its core sits a split pomegranate, spilling, staining, offering no apologies for the way it has altered the piece. It becomes a metaphor for selfhood, it refuses containment, it's vivid and it spills, but yet it is protected and rooted within a bigger entity. Using a metal frame, fabric, wire, and thread to gain the organic form, it becomes a cocoon, a protection for myself as I expose myself as this raw, lively being. Yet, the protective enclosure echoes the labor of holding oneself together. I am taking up space without apology.
